Q3 2013 Facebook results, some valuable info

Business Insider had published the article "Facebook Beats On Revenues And EPS But Teen Users Show Decline"

What means mobile for the majority of the persons? SmartPhones? Tablets? All-in-one computers with wi-fi you can take from dining room to the bedroom?
In the near future everything will be mobile?

I hope they had not reached operating ceiling. For Facebook and others, the unexploited Latin American Market (mainly South American) remains enormous! (Facebook has the same problem with revenue by geography as many online dating sites)

It seems something big in the Online Dating Industry will happen soon!

HowAboutWe Internationalizes Its Dating App, Goes Entirely Free In 30+ Countries ???

Article at TechCrunch

For "Internationalization", they should learn from Badoo and Zoosk: in decadence now, Be2 that failed; and others.

HowAboutWe is a dating feature mostly offering  "Go on dates with people who like what you like" but If man A likes playing cards and woman B also likes playing cards, that does not mean man A likes woman B, or woman B can like man A with the same intensity or interest.

Not sure if HowAboutWe is profitable or not, but mobile applications like them are marketing tools to migrate free users to paid online dating sites, like Tinder and Twoo useful to migrate users to Match and Meetic, and make them pay there. It seems other social dating applications are decaying fast, like Badoo, Zoosk, Skout, Twine, AreYouInterested, etc.

Lots of others had failed like: 1Mind, LikeIt / TheCompleteMe,  Comiingle, LikeBright, Perceptual Networks, Zingl, Engage (then rebranded to Ignighter group dating, then rebranded again to StepOut), Thread, Triangulate, Gelato (then rebranded to Twnty), WooMe, 12Like, LittleHint, SmartDate  and others.

Social dating is vaporware. Online Dating for serious daters does not need to be more social, it needs to be more effective/efficient. It needs to reduce the false positives problem. The Online Dating Industry needs innovations but they will come from only one source: the latest discoveries in theories of romantic relationships development with commitment: Compatibility is all about a high level on personality* similarity* between prospective mates for long term mating with commitment.
*personality measured with a normative test.
*similarity: there are different ways to calculate similarity, it depends on how mathematically is defined.

Lack Of Innovation & Decadence can summarize the Online Dating Industry since years. (Please read: The Unsurprising Trend of Online Dating 'Going Offline' )

C level executives are cooking barbecues under the water (selling smoke) and not paying attention to latest research from Academics which could be beneficial for the Online Dating Industry. Wasting precious time with Matchmakers which should be obsolete.

WorldWide, there are over 5,000 -five thousand- online dating sites
but no one is using the 16PF5 (or similar) to assess personality of its members!
but no one calculates similarity with a quantized pattern comparison method!
but no one can show Compatibility Distribution Curves to each and every of its members!
but no one is scientifically proven!

Worldwide there are less than 7 million paid members (adding up all the ones at eHarmony, Match, Chemistry, Meetic, MeeticAffinity, OkCupid, PeopleMedia's Communities, PlentyOfFish, Parship/eCift, and others).
The market remains enormous for new players.

Dating in Japan: New essay about "Herbivore men"

Herbivore men is a social phenomenon in Japan of men who shun marriage or gaining a girlfriend:  A Phenomenological Study of “Herbivore Men” Masahiro Morioka
The Review of Life Studies, Vol.4 (September 2013):1-20.

Please read also 2013 Japan Digital Future in Focus
The report provides a comprehensive overview of the Japanese digital market and examines how the prevailing trends in web and mobile usage, online video, social media, digital advertising, and e-commerce are defining the current marketplace and what these trends mean for marketers.

Remember Match in Japan and eHarmony Japan failure ?

Again "Very Good" Q3 2013 for IAC Personals, but for the next 3 years

They do not want to innovate, they want to squeeze their big databases to get all the juice (money) from the wallets of the users. See also IAC Q3 2013 conference call full transcription.

IAC Q3 2013 conference call full transcription

Here is its main strategy for IAC Personals:
"We basically looked at our growth in users over the last year and our growth in converting those users to payers over the last year and then basically assumed, if we can do the exact same thing that we did over the last year over the next 3 years, holding pricing constant and a whole bunch of other things ...."
"Turning to Match (IAC Personals), we had a great third quarter. And to repeat what I've said now for 3 quarters running, the momentum continues to build, with solid increases in revenue growth,"
".... This year alone, new user conversion to payers is up double digits at Match, ... driven primarily by improvements in the mobile product. "
"Our services are generally based on a premium business model. With our traditional products like Match and Meetic, users can complete profiles, search other profiles, get matches and indicate interest to other profiles, all for free. But in order to communicate back and forth, they have to pay. On our other products like OkCupid and Twoo, we allow some degree of communication before hitting the paywall."
".. over the next 2 years, we think we can move average rates there meaningfully, without having to increase base subscription pricing. The effect of this would be to increase the lifetime value of the subscriber"

What means mobile for Match (IAC)? SmartPhones? Tablets? All-in-one computers with wi-fi you can take from dining room to the bedroom?
In the near future everything will be mobile?

Imagine a NEW Legislation for Online Dating Sites to force them disclose how many active members they have (Premium members: paid or with gift subscriptions) ?
And also force them to conduct ID verification ?

Actually, the Online Dating Industry has no/weak Legislation, no ID verification, low reliable background checks, no Quality Norms.
No one compatibility matching method is Scientifically Proven.
BUT
A variety of new laws, or new interpretations of existing laws, could subject dating sites to claims or otherwise harm their business. (extracted from IAC SEC filing)

It was all written since years.

It was a main prediction, to not going to revolutionize the Online Dating Industry. THE HEXACO PERSONALITY INVENTORY is going to replace the Big 5 normative personality test, but again  Online Dating sites have very big databases, in the range of 20,000,000 (twenty million) profiles, so the BIG5 model or the HEXACO model are not enough for predictive purposes.

With less than USD10 Million you can copycat eHarmony

The only way to revolutionize the Online Dating Industry is using the 16PF5 normative personality test, available in different languages to assess personality of members, or a proprietary test with exactly the same traits of the 16PF5 and expressing compatibility with eight decimals (needs a quantized pattern comparison method, part of pattern recognition by cross-correlation, to calculate similarity between prospective mates.)

No one is Scientifically Proven

No actual online dating site  is "scientifically proven" because no one can prove its matching algorithm can match prospective partners who will have more stable and satisfying relationships -and very low divorce rates- than couples matched by chance, astrological destiny, personal preferences, searching on one's own, or other technique as the control group in a peer reviewed Scientific Paper for the majority (over 90%) of its members.
Moreover the entire Online Dating Industry for serious daters in 1st World Countries is a HOAX, performing as a Big Online Casino, with a low effectiveness/efficiency level of their matching algorithms (less than 10%), in the same range as searching by your own.

Imagine a report saying the gamblers who had won a big amount of money in any of the Casinos of Las Vegas, are happier than ever.
That is nothing new, because gamblers who win are a minority.
The majority of gamblers are not going to win nothing.
That report will not be representative of the universe of gamblers.

Zoosk October 2013 redesign

If Zoosk plans its IPO, I will denounce Zoosk at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for fraud. Zoosk's Scientific Matchmaking Service (ZSMS) is a HOAX.

Several times I had written about punches to behavioural matching algorithms like the one used at Match, the one used at Zoosk, and the one used at PlentyOfFish (POF).
(Behavioural recommender systems or other system that learns your preferences are useless)

Free/freemium online dating sites like PlentyOfFish and OKCupid are only marketing tools useful to send prospective customers to paid online dating sites. The same for social dating applications like Tinder and Twoo, marketing tools to migrate free users to Match/ Meetic and make them pay there. It seems other social dating applications are decaying like Badoo, and Tinder is going to be redesigned soon.

More about Pew study 2013: Online Dating & Relationships

Mashable had published an article about Pew study 2013: Online Dating & Relationships.

"With the promise of algorithmic matching and big pools of single people, the Internet should be a serious-committed-relationships machine. And that should only improve as those algorithms are refined and that pool grows bigger. But alas. Compared with 2005, the rate of online matches that evolve into marriages or other long-term partnerships remains about the same (23% today, versus 17% in 2005 — "statistically similar" numbers, according to Pew). There's no way to gauge whether this number is low or high compared with other venues for meeting people, but it's interesting that it hasn't budged more as online dating has become more popular and more accepted."

I agree, Lack Of Innovation & Decadence can summarize the Online Dating Industry since years.

Pew study: Online Dating & Relationships

Remember the Pew study: 1 in 3 U.S. Americans now owns a tablet  ? the mobile concept evolving, meaning tablets with Wi-Fi Network access and not smartphones.

Now Pew had published Online Dating & Relationships report.

"Negative experiences on online dating sites are relatively common
Even as online daters have largely positive opinions of the process, many have had negative experiences using online dating. Half (54%) of online daters have felt that someone else seriously misrepresented themselves in their profile. And more seriously, 28% of online daters have been contacted by someone through an online dating site or app in a way that made them feel harassed or uncomfortable. Women are much more likely than men to have experienced uncomfortable contact via online dating sites or apps: some 42% of female online daters have experienced this type of contact at one point or another, compared with 17% of men."

THE HEXACO PERSONALITY INVENTORY to replace the Big 5 test

The BIG5 normative personality test is the biggest mistake Psychologists made since several years ago. The BIG5 is also known as the Five Factor Model theory of personality traits, a psychological model based on research by Paul Costa and Robert McCrae
BIG5 normative personality test is OBSOLETE

"While the Big-Five has been the dominant approach in personality research for over two decades, recent investigations have identified a sixth independent personality dimension referred to as Honesty-Humility (Ashton & Lee, 2007, 2009). The six independent factors then are: Honesty-Humility (H), Emotionality (E), Extraversion (X), Agreeableness (A), Conscientiousness (C), and Openness to Experience (O). This six dimension model, referred to as the HEXACO model, is argued to account for cross-cultural lexical findings, as well the subtle distinctions between personality traits better than the Big-Five (Ashton & Lee, 2007). The original measurement scale of this model consists of the 60-item HEXACO-60 scale (Ashton & Lee, 2009)."

Online Dating sites have very big databases, in the range of 20,000,000 (twenty million) profiles, so the BIG5 model or the HEXACO model are not enough for predictive purposes.

How Alexa shows BBC of London UK incinerated Cupid PLC.

Last July, BBC published the articles:
Concerns raised over web dating 'fake profiles'
Cupid says independent report finds no fake profiles "In February 2013, an investigation by the BBC's "5 live Investigates" spoke to internet surfers who said they received lots of messages from prospective dates when they first joined the free service. But when they subscribed to the service, interest rapidly tailed off."
then Cupid PLC replied: "Cupid plc Response to the BBC"

After that scandal some "UK Dating Sites Found Body To Clean Up Industry"  But they should begin to delete all INACTIVE PROFILES from online dating sites.

See how Alexa shows BBC of London UK incinerated Cupid PLC. Because Alexa is like a seismograph station for Internet sites

Some time ago The power of word of mouth killed Be2!

Can you guess which is the next big online dating company to be incinerated by Journalists and the power of word of mouth?

EXCELLENT research! Mobile's Impact on Dating and Relationships

The Simpsons, Apple, Facebook, LinkedIn, WordPress, Google, Hotmail, Yahoo, YouTube, Blogger, Wikipedia, Bing, Twitter, Skype are BIG successes in Argentina!!!
I have the theory that if something is successful in Argentina, it could be a success in the World.
If it can NOT be a success here in Argentina, it will definitely NOT be a success in the World.

NO online dating company (for serious daters) has success here in Argentina nor Brazil or other Latin American country.

Mobile and Dating: Preference for Accessing Online Dating Sites
The vast majority of singles want to access online dating sites from the privacy of their homes with 72% preferring to access them from their home computers. However, 68% of singles are still likely to use their mobile devices either at home or away from home to access the sites.

43 Million of phantoms in a dried tree.

The assets of True are to be sold to PlentyOfFish (POF), the world’s largest online dating site with over 60 million registered users. Founded in 2003, PlentyOfFish has been using the most advanced matching system in the industry to help singles all over the world meet, date, and find meaningful relationships. ???

Online daters belong to 3, 4, 5 or 6 online dating sites at the same time. My bet: 50% of those phantoms at True had tried PlentyOfFish before. New laws, or new interpretations of existing laws, could subject dating sites to claims or otherwise harm their business.

Lack Of Innovation & Decadence can summarize the Online Dating Industry since years. (Please read: The Unsurprising Trend of Online Dating 'Going Offline' ) PlentyOfFish failed to be acquired by IAC and acquired a typewriter to "innovate" in the Online Dating Industry.  Now plans to acquire a " dead dried tree"?

Remember:
A 52 page report from ComScore, from 2010 shows PlentyofFish (POF) is for casual dating (short term relationships).

High precision in matching algorithms is precisely the key to open the door and leave the infancy of compatibility testing.
It is all about achieving the eighth decimal!
With 8 decimals, you have more precision than any person could achieve by searching on one's own, but the only way to achieve the eighth decimal is using analysis and correlation with quantized patterns.

Without offering the NORMATIVE16PF5 (or similar test measuring exactly the 16 personality factors) for serious dating, it will be impossible to innovate and revolutionize the Online Dating Industry All other proposals are NOISE and perform as placebo.

Men with deep voices sexier, but more likely to cheat - study

Scientists found that men with masculine, low-pitched voices are better at attracting women - at least those looking for short-term flings.  "The consequences of infidelity are very high, whether it is emotional or financial, and this research suggests that humans have evolved as a protection mechanism to avoid long-term partners who may cheat."

Intriguing information from Avid Life Media (Ashley Madison)

"Fortress Investments, a New York hedge fund, will loan Avid Life Media USD50M over two years. " ???

Some days ago, FriendFinder sent a letter to Affiliates announcing its bankruptcy

Just read some intriguing information from Avid Life Media (Ashley Madison) because casual dating sites are not as popular as they pretend to be. Cheaters do not want to meet other cheaters like them. They want to use Match or eHarmony and pretend to be singles, not to disclose they are married and cheaters. See some valuable info from Alexa.

DatesMatch powered by GlobalPersonals ?

"DatesMatch net, a dating site for serious daters, has secured GBP750K in funding from private investors. The company will use the money to grow its membership from 3M to 5M. The site launched in 2010, is based in Edinburgh, Scotland but operating internationally."

operating internationally?

This is intriguing:

but nearly nobody uses it (according to Alexa)
receives GBP 750,000 as investment
and it is powered by .... GlobalPersonals?
