They are like continually inflating balloons and they need to find a buyer before they explode. If they can not find a private buyer for the entire company, the investors had the strategy of going public, to start trading its shares on the New York Stock Exchange, they turn those pieces of paper (shares) in real money, they get thousands of buyers purchasing lower small parts (shares).

Subjects: For the current study the researcher conducted the Sixteen Personality Factor test  (16 PF) on  259 male mountaineers,  undergoing the up-gradation courses at Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarkashi.

PAPER: Development of a group recommender application in a Social Network

In today's society, recommendations are becoming increasingly important. With the advent of the Social Web and the growing popularity of Social Networks, where users explicitly provide personal information and interact with others and the system, it is becoming clear that the key for the success of recommendations is to develop new strategies which focus on social recommendations leveraged by these new sources of knowledge. In our work, we focus on group recommender systems. These systems traditionally suffer from a number of shortcomings that hamper their effectiveness. In this paper we continue our research, that focuses on improving the overall quality of group recommendations through the addition of social knowledge to existing recommendation strategies. To do so, we use the information stored in Social Networks to elicit social factors following two approaches: the cognitive modeling approach, that studies how people's way of thinking predisposes their actions; and the social approach, that studies how people's relationships predispose their actions. We show the value of using models of social cognition extracted from Social Networks in group recommender systems through the instantiation of our model into a real-life Facebook movie recommender application.


The authors used first an adaptation of the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI). The TKI test consists of 30 different situations with two possible answers. Depending on the answers, a score is assigned for 5 existing personality modes organized according to two dimensions: assertiveness and cooperativeness. Then replaced that test with a movie metaphor as an alternative personality test.


Other proposal like the above one is PersonalityML.
Personality markup language (PersonalityML) has the aim of standardize and help to disseminate and share the use of users’ personality information across applications that take human psychological aspects into account in the computer decision making process.

The Big Five (Big 5, FFI, FFM, OCEAN model) normative personality test is obsolete. The HEXACO (a.k.a. Big Six) is another oversimplification. Online Dating sites have very big databases, in the range of 20,000,000 (twenty million) profiles, so the Big Five model or the HEXACO model are not enough for predictive purposes. That is why I suggest the 16PF5 test instead and another method to calculate similarity.

It does need "a 100 times better improvement", not 100% better, 100X better The Online Dating Industry needs a very powerful algorithm like the "Teller Ulam design". Personality Based Recommender Systems are the next generation of recommender systems because they perform far better than Behavioural ones (past actions and pattern of personal preferences)
That is the only way to improve recommender systems, to include the personality traits of their users. They need to calculate personality similarity between users but there are different formulas to calculate similarity. Recommender systems are morphing to .......... compatibility matching engines, as the same used in the Online Dating Industry since years, with low success rates until now because they mostly use the Big Five to assess personality and the Pearson correlation coefficient to calculate similarity.
The Big Five (Big 5, FFI, FFM, OCEAN model) normative personality test is obsolete. The HEXACO (a.k.a. Big Six) is another oversimplification. Online Dating sites have very big databases, in the range of 20,000,000 (twenty million) profiles, so the Big Five model or the HEXACO model are not enough for predictive purposes. That is why I suggest the 16PF5 test instead and another method to calculate similarity. I calculate similarity in personality patterns with (a proprietary) pattern recognition by correlation method. It takes into account the score and the trend to score of any pattern. Also it takes into account women under hormonal treatment because several studies showed contraceptive pills users make different mate choices, on average, compared to non-users. "Only short-term but not long-term partner preferences tend to vary with the menstrual cycle".
[Also some Psychologists began to encourage the use of other tests for the Online Dating Industry, like:
California Psychological Inventory (CPI)
and
The Millon Index of Personality Styles-Revised (MIPS Revised)

but my best recommendation is, of course, the 16PF5 normative personality test.
Nor the CPI nor the MIPS can outperform the 16PF5.]

Perhaps Pinterest is like Chatroulette and will collapse soon.
Lots of persons want to use it, but nobody wants to pay for it.
There is a large dotcom bubble fueled by venture investment funds, investors who are dragging other investors to continue investing until they can sell shares of the company and recover leveraged money, but the last holder of shares is going to lose.
Many technology companies, without having a concrete business model (supposedly will generate revenue from advertising and premium subscription accounts) receive millions of dollars in funding to offer something free, acquiring fastly a large mass of captive users as if they had made them addicts, and then, the exit strategy (for investors) is to get someone to buy the company at a staggering figure, as did Blogger, Fotolog, MySpace, YouTube, Skype, Bebo and others. They are like continually inflating balloons and they need to find a buyer before they explode. If they can not find a private buyer for the entire company, the investors had the strategy of going public, to start trading its shares on the New York Stock Exchange, they turn those pieces of paper (shares) in real money, they get thousands of buyers purchasing lower small parts (shares).

PAPER Personality Resilience Following a Natural Disaster

Abstract


We examine changes in the Big Six personality markers (Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability, Openness to Experience, and Honesty–Humility) before and after the 2010/2011 Christchurch earthquakes in a longitudinal study of New Zealand residents (N =3,914). Results show remarkable stability in personality, save for one exception: Those who were affected by the earthquakes evidenced a slight decrease in Emotional Stability over the 2-year test–retest period relative to those unaffected by the earthquakes. These findings indicate that most aspects of personality are resilient following a major natural disaster. The slight decrease in Emotional Stability, however, points to a possible increase in vulnerability to depression and anxiety for those affected by the earthquakes. Our study provides important insights into a central question about stability and change in personality following major life events.

Examining the relationship between changes in personality and changes in depression.

The present study explored the potential importance of using personality trait change as a unique predictor of change in depressive symptoms in a large, longitudinal sample. Cross-sectional, prospective, and correlated-change analyses, as well as several potential mediators (i.e., life satisfaction, chronic stressors, physical health) that may account for the link between personality traits and depression were tested. As predicted, the relationship between static levels of personality traits and depression found in previous research was replicated, and strong evidence was found for personality trait change in predicting change in depression. Variables associated with satisfaction and health were found to partially mediate the link between personality traits and depression.

Sample:
We used data compiled from a total of 5217 participants.
In 2006, a total of 5002 participants (Mage= 67, SD = 9.8, 59% female)
In 2010, a total of 5007 participants (Mage= 71, SD = 9.7, 60% female)
Personality was measured using the MIDUS Big Five Adjectival scale.
Across both time points, the ethnic background of our sample was 85% European American, 11% African American, and 4% other, and participants reported an average of 13 years of education.

We found evidence of the potential importance of personality trait change in predicting changes in depression, as well as replicated existing research demonstrating the link between static levels of personality traits and depression"
