People-to-People Reciprocal Recommenders

Abstract

People-to-people reciprocal recommenders are an emerging class of recommender systems. They differ from traditional items-to-people recommenders as they must satisfy the preferences and needs of the two parties involved in the recommendation. In contrast, traditional items-to-people recommenders are one-sided and must satisfy only the preference of the person for whom the recommendation is generated. We review the characteristics and present an overview of existing reciprocal recommenders. To illustrate the various aspects of these recommenders and how reciprocity can be taken into account in building and evaluating such recommenders, we present a case study in online dating. We describe our reciprocal recommender algorithm that combines content-based and collaborative filtering and uses data from both user profiles and user interactions. We also study the differences between the implicit and explicit user preferences and show that implicit preferences, learned from user interactions, are better predictors of successful interactions. We conclude by outlining some future research directions.

PAPER "Homogeneity of personal values and personality traits in Facebook social networks"




Abstract

Focusing on similarity of personal values and of personality traits, we investigated who is friends with whom in Facebook friendships. A Facebook application administered questionnaires and retrieved data on whom in our sample of 3348 participants were friends. On average, participants had 8.7 friends within our sample. People similar to each other, either regarding personal values or personality traits, tended to be friends. Moreover, the effect of similarity was not evenly distributed across the value or trait continuums. Those scoring high on Openness to Change or Self-Transcendence values were more likely to be friends with people sharing these values. Regarding personality, those high in Emotional Stability or Openness to Experience, or low in Extraversion, tended to have similar friends.

I live in a South American country and I am really astonished to see how online daters in "1st World" countries are really victims of human experimentation. No actual online dating site  is "scientifically proven" because no one can prove its matching algorithm can match prospective partners who will have more stable and satisfying relationships -and very low divorce rates- than couples matched by chance, astrological destiny, personal preferences, searching on one's own, or other technique as the control group in a peer reviewed Scientific Paper for the majority (over 90%) of its members.  

The Online Dating Industry is performing like the Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Industry before the USA Food and Drug Administration was created. There is no/weak Legislation, no ID verification, low reliable background checks, no Quality Norms.
No one compatibility matching method is Scientifically Proven.
The entire Online Dating Industry for serious daters in 1st World Countries is a HOAX, performing as a Big Online Casino, with a low effectiveness/efficiency level of their matching algorithms (less than 10%). In the same range as searching by your own.

I live in a South American country and I am really astonished to see how online daters in "1st World" countries are really victims of human experimentation. No actual online dating site  is "scientifically proven" because no one can prove its matching algorithm can match prospective partners who will have more stable and satisfying relationships -and very low divorce rates- than couples matched by chance, astrological destiny, personal preferences, searching on one's own, or other technique as the control group in a peer reviewed Scientific Paper for the majority (over 90%) of its members.  

The Online Dating Industry is performing like the Pharmaceutical and Cosmetic Industry before the USA Food and Drug Administration was created. There is no/weak Legislation, no ID verification, low reliable background checks, no Quality Norms.
No one compatibility matching method is Scientifically Proven.
The entire Online Dating Industry for serious daters in 1st World Countries is a HOAX, performing as a Big Online Casino, with a low effectiveness/efficiency level of their matching algorithms (less than 10%). In the same range as searching by your own.


The key to long-lasting romance is STRICT PERSONALITY SIMILARITY and not "meet other people with similar interests". 

The Online Dating Industry needs a very powerful algorithm like the "Teller Ulam design". In this case 100 times more powerful than actual matching algorithms.
