Behavioural Recommender Systems RUBBISH

Behavioural Recommender Systems RUBBISH

It is really funny how those "important persons" from big Online Dating Sites can waste precious time with Behavioural Recommender Systems, improving them, "refining" those Behavioural Matching Algorithms, which are all rubbish.
The effectiveness/efficiency level of those Behavioural Matching Algorithms are less than 10%!!!

Free online dating sites like PlentyOfFish and OkCupid can not be successful because they are only marketing tools to send users to paid online dating sites. To be profitable, they need the commissions paid bay those paid online dating sites

Paid online dating sites like eHarmony, Meetic, Match, Chemistry, etc, can not be successful because they have high acquisition costs, they can not abandon the attracting, converting and retaining marketing stages; the automatic renewal of their members's subscriptions with dirty credit-card billing trickery.

Big online dating sites DO NOT WANT TO INNOVATE.

The entire Online Dating Industry for serious daters in 1st World Countries is a HOAX, performing as a Big Online Casino, with a low effectiveness/efficiency level of their matching algorithms (less than 10%) There is a range convergence phenomenon between the 3 mains tools online dating sites offer now: Searching by your own, Recommendation Engines and Compatibility Matching Methods based on proprietary models or the Big5. Any member receives on average 3 to 4 prospective mates as selected / recommended / compatible for dating purposes per 1,000 members screened in the database.
They all 3 are performing the same for serious daters, with a high percentage of false positives, like gun machines firing flowers.

Would  you be flying with an airline that had a 80% failure rate?

The Online Dating Industry needs innovations but they will come from only one source: the latest discoveries in theories of romantic relationships development with commitment.
I) Several studies showing contraceptive pills users make different mate choices, on average, compared to non-users.
II) People often report partner preferences that are not compatible with their choices in real life.
III) Compatibility is all about a high level on personality* similarity* between prospective mates for long term mating with commitment.
*personality measured with a normative test.
*similarity: there are different ways to calculate similarity, it depends on how mathematically is defined.

Also Personality Based Recommender Systems are the next generation of recommender systems because they perform FAR better than Behavioural ones (past actions and pattern of personal preferences)
That is the only way to improve recommender systems, to include the personality traits
of their users and they need to calculate personality similarity between them.

WorldWide, there are over 5,000 online dating sites
but no one is using the 16PF5 (or similar test) to assess personality of its members.
Without offering the 16PF5 (or similar test measuring exactly the 16 personality factors) for serious dating, it will be impossible to innovate and revolutionize the Online Dating Industry.

Meetic sinking ship

Meetic sinking ship (losing traffic), it was entirely sold to Match (IAC).
High acquisition costs from Meetic shows Meetic can not abandon the attracting, converting and retaining marketing stages; the automatic renewal of their members's subscriptions with dirty credit-card billing trickery.

Daily6 at Meetic

Daily6 at Meetic. Do you remember the Daily5 at Match?

Now Meetic offers you the Daily6, chat, and a (rubbish) behavioural recommender system  !!!

I remember posting about "Meetic not innovating" saying "Innovations are not adding more bells and whistles to actual online dating sites."

Meetic Affinity renewed its site. Only a make-up, the test is the same as 2006
eHarmony  recommends you 7 persons the first day you register
Meetic Affinity recommnends you 50 persons!!!
As Meetic is entirely sold to Match (IAC) they can fire its employees.

IAC Q2 2011

Personals: Match launched a tender offer for the 73% of Meetic that it does not already own; Core subscribers grew 17%; OkCupid grew active users 14% since its acquisition in Q1 2011; OkCupid founders formed M-8, an internal group that will develop new products to help people meet online.
"new products to help people meet online" ???
OkCupid founders are 4 mathematicians from Harvard University who had the opportunity to do big things, but instead they had created a rubbish online dating site (OkCupid). Anxiously expecting what they are going to "develop" (a copycat of Badoo with rubbish tests?).
new products == innovations.
The Online Dating Industry needs innovations but they will come from only one source: the latest discoveries in theories of romantic relationships development with commitment.

but they can not reach and sustain more than 2,000,000 paying subscribers!!!

Online dating: Computer says yes. But will we click?

Online dating: Computer says yes. But will we click?
The lonely hearts ad has had its day: now an algorithm will decide who we spend our lives with. But can a computer really be trusted with affairs of the heart? As eHarmony's online matchmaking service booms, Emma John looks for her perfect man

eHarmony, it is a nearly 11 years old obsolete site.
11 long years scamming their members with a HOAX.

The success rate of eHarmony is less than 10%
eHarmony is only supported by a big marketing budget and not by serious scientific evidence.

Online dating is eroding humanity

Online dating is eroding humanity
"Dating websites distort the very core of interpersonal relations and turn love into a consumer product "

The writer and journalist Lori Gottlieb (March 2006) noted about the growing number of Internet dating sites that are using the science of attraction to match singles: "their efforts mark the early days of a social experiment of unprecedented proportions, involving millions of couples and possibly extending over the course of generations"

Zoozamen Couple Compatibility Service

Raanan Haas is the brain and the Chief Scientific Officer at ZooZamen.

I remember I had reviewed their "Zoozamen Couple Compatibility Service"  last August 2009 at JDate, but as IT DOES NOT INCLUDE any personality test, it is useless at all. It is a HOAX.

"The Noa matching test offered by Zoozamen is a postmodern, behavioral, high validity and content specific matching test.
The algorithm is based on over ten years of vast research and hands-on experience in various markets and organizations.
The matching algorithm has been approved and is used by Israeli welfare agencies as a standard test implemented when testing couples for compatibility as foster parents.
The proposed model has been adapted specifically for Internet dating services.
The questionnaire: The questionnaire is based upon experience in the matching industry as well as current, specific psychological knowledge relating to dating issues.
The model: The model has been tested by local Israeli focal groups and has proven to be accurate, successful and well received by the audience.
Feedback: The overall impression and feedback of the focal group users has been extremely positive."

Google Plus Hangouts

Leena Rao from TechCrunch had written an article about Google Hangouts.

Chatroulette was 95% men and 5% women.
Badoo is 95% men and 5% women.
My bet the same will happen with Google Plus Hangouts.

It seems women do not like at all that type of "social feature" !

MyYearbook sold to QuePasa for USD100 million

MyYearbook sold to QuePasa for USD100 million. Quepasa will pay USD82 million in common stock and USD18 million in cash for the deal.
They are both 2 dying "social nets"
The best timing to sell your company is when you do not need to, when it is a healthy ship and not when the owner/CEO is simply jumping from a sinking ship.
QuePasa offers Ciudad Maravillosa / Cidade Maravilhosa, a copycat of CityVille from Zynga, but set in Rio de Janeiro.

0.08% followers in twitter met in person with the leader.

The Argentinean Newspaper Clarín published today a research carried on by Twitter through Socialmetrix Echo that compared on line vs traditional friendship, on the Friends' Day celebration, happening today in Argentina and other countries in Latin America.

Between the 10th and 18th July 2011, SocialMetrix studied the behavior of nearly 1.5 million Spanish Twitter users. Only 0.08% of them used phrases like "we met" "we get together", " we come to eat," "let's dance" or "let's go to my house" and derived the relationship from the virtual world to real life.

eVow failed, PlentyOfFish on sale soon.

After eVow failure, PlentyOfFish began its translation to French, German, Spanish and Italian (soon)

After hacking incident, PlentyOfFish began to acquire huge amounts of traffic, leveraging to sell, before Badoo or Legislation kills PlentyOfFish.
